Best restaurants in North Houston

FOOOOORRRRREEEEE! Something we hear shouted on golf courses and at driving ranges all over the place. Golf is a very popular activity in Houston. Whether it's pros at the Shell Houston Open, a few friends on the green at a local course like Sharpstown or Memorial, hitting a Putt Putt or a Zuma location for miniature golf, or banging some golf balls down a driving range, Houston, with it's typically mild winters and long warm season is a great city for golf. Driving ranges are very popular here. However, usually you rent a bucket of balls, hit them down and guesstimate your distance and often buy a soda out of a vending machine or bring your own beverage. Thanks to places like Top Golf, the old driving range has been given a makeover. Advanced tracking tells how far and where your balls have landed. They make a game out of driving by having specified targets and point values, and instead of a bag of chips and a soda, they have good burgers, great chicken wings and other gourmet inspired comfort foods, some of which can be cooked right in your spot on the driving range. They even have a game room, Golden Tee, a fully stocked cocktail bar and executive teeing spots that have soft couches and hospitality professionals on hand. Now THIS is NOT YOUR DAD'S DRIVING Range-but you should bring your dad, as he'd LOVE IT!!!

Teeing Spot-nice table, couch and good few of the range

I was recently invited to a Preview of new dishes to the New Top Golf Houston North off of I-45 N and Spring Cypresswood. I've already been to Top Golf West off of I-10 and Katy Freeway, and they are top notch over there. However, I was informed that there would be some new dishes available to sample, along with new cocktails and some modifications made to this location based on all they've learned from the successes of their Houston West Location, and we'd get to play a little too! While walking 18 holes on the green and getting frustrated is something I've done a few times, driving ranges are a lot more fun, and I already am a Fan of Top Golf, so there was no arm twisting involved, I was going to be there and was going to darn well like it. I also "dragged" (sarcasm) my coworker ! We were treated to samples of new cocktails which included one called the Orange Dream (made with Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka, Orange Juice and Sierra Mist), Tito's Strawberry Mule (Made with Tito's Vodka, Fresh Muddled Strawberries, Fresh Mint Leaves & Schnapps and ginger Beer) and an Ultimate Long Island Iced Tea (Cruz Tequila, Grey Goose Vodka, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Cointreau, Lemon Sour mix and Cola). I tried the Orange Dream, and though it tasted like a creamsicle, I consider it a nice twist on the old blue collar screwdriver Vodka OJ mixer. The Ultimate Long Island Iced tea had quite a kick to it-and it had that Iced Tea taste you expect from such a beverage, but with those high end spirits... wow! Grades: A & A
