Chinese Restaurants in Hoover AL
HOOVER, Alabama - A new Chinese buffet opened recently in the Shades Mountain Plaza shopping center — better known to locals as the Piggly Wiggly shopping center — just off Tyler Road, in the Bluff Park area of Hoover.
The wide-open floor plan of Yummy China Buffet lends itself well to a buffet set-up. Numerous booths and tables fill the large dining area, with the buffet tables located at the rear of the room.
The ambience is kind of quirky. Cranberry-colored walls have been texturized with a fan-shaped pattern and are speckled with glitter. Electric artwork features backlit images of such subjects as the Great Wall — one such piece depicts a moving waterfall and emits songbird sound effects.
Background music is amplified Asian easy listening. Dim the overhead lights a bit and add a disco ball and this place would take on the vibe of a retro prom in the high school gym.
At 7:30 on a recent Saturday night, we soon had the place all to ourselves, although we did notice a few folks stopping in to pick up takeout. The hostess said the restaurant had been busier the night before.
You can order from a complete menu of Chinese entrees, appetizers and soups. Appetizer prices range from $1 for an egg roll to $5.99 for an order of 10 Buffalo wings. Entrees are priced from $5.25 for chicken fried rice, lo mein or chow mein, to $12.50 for the Seafood Special Dish, featuring shrimp, scallops, crabmeat and Chinese vegetables.

Special combination plates, served with egg roll and fried rice, are priced under $7. Choices include the usual Chinese dishes, such as moo goo gai pan, sesame chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce and pepper steak.
To sample a greater variety, we opted for the buffet, which is priced at $7.75 at dinner and $5.99 at lunch.
An appetizer and fruit bar featured two soup selections, as well as egg rolls, chicken wings, peel-and-eat shrimp and fresh fruit, including oranges and watermelon. This is also where you will find dessert offerings such as chocolate and banana pudding and sugared donuts. Ice cream is available from a separate freezer.
The buffet’s entree selections were numerous, including coconut shrimp, Mongolian beef, honey chicken, sweet and sour chicken, spicy shrimp, General Tao’s chicken, spicy chicken with jalapenos, and a creamy seafood casserole. The meats were all of a very high quality — the shrimp tasted very fresh, the chicken was moist white meat, and the beef was good and tender. No tough, gristly surprises here.

Are there Hunan Chinese Restaurant in Foley AL?
The Jade Palace has a buffett that I tried once and it was OK- but I don't do buffett's, always eat to much.
My best recommendation is Carrabba's Itallian in front of Best Buys.
